is the hotel lincoln in chicago,IL haunted? it is true ? does the hotel still exsist?
I saw it on tv one time ( i think it was on haunted hotels) i would really like to know! Thanks!
I’m not familiar with any Hotel Lincoln in Chicago. I do know that the Congress Hotel is often mentioned when discussing haunted Chicago. Al Capone lived in suite 800 and room 666 is sealed shut. Franklin Roosevelt and Thomas Edison have reportedly been seen roaming around the hotel.
Chicago gangster history has fascinated world historians and visitors to the city at the same way since the 1920s. The trauma of gangland Chicago during the legendary Prohibition decade has been immortalized in a series of Hollywood movies – thrillingly represented in Brian de Palma's "The Untouchables" and loudly spoofed in Billy Wilder "Some Like It Hot". But what is it about this decade in Chicago's history that never fails to capture the national imagination?
For many, the figure is the gang lord Al Capone a large part of the charm. During the prohibition years of the 1920s, when the consumption of alcohol was banned in the U.S., effectively Capone ran Chicago as his own city and became the most notorious American criminal of the twentieth century. During the course of this decade, Capone ran his empire from the Lexington Hotel at 22nd and Michigan Avenue in Chicago and taken advantage of the extensive bootlegging racket that marked city. The illicit trade in alcohol, and the huge number of illegal clubs (which have been used for the secret sales and alcohol consumption) that occurred around the city, truly an enormous role in the success of Al Capone is nefarious gang.
What is more, the famous St. Valentine's Day Massacre in 1929 – are now considered as one of Chicago's most decisive moments of the 1920s – has also ingrained in the American psyche. This famous incident in Chicago history, saw the shooting of seven people – six of the gangsters – the culmination of a big rivalry between the city's two major leagues: Al Capone's South Side gang of Bugs Moran's North Side gang.
In the end, the arrest of Al Capone of tax evasion in 1931 led to his downfall, and this is seen by many as an ironic – and somewhat deflating – an end to this nefarious gang leaders. In essence, it is all-pervasive feature of gang warfare in Chicago ban the years that makes it so appealing to history buffs – the amazing fact that a man could be so full of criminal control of a city, and still be reduced by such a mundane crimes.
Of course was the final lifting of the prohibition act in 1933 is seen by many as a signal to the first major domestic experiment of the twentieth century had failed, a factor which further pushed Al Capone and his bootlegging gangs of legendary status. Today many visitors to Chicago are keen to map the city's gangland past and discovers that old black clubs were, and it is relatively easy to do. Simply find a hotel in Chicago to use as a base and explore the ancient site of Lexington Hotel, along with Capone range of notorious hangout. And while this may seem an somewhat macabre holiday theme, there is still one that will produce a voltage for those who find a bloody piece of American history entertaining.
